7-yr-old girl found murdered on rooftop; dad’s colleague held
Jaipur: A seven-year-old girl was found dead on the roof of her rented house in Pratap Nagar area Monday, just hours after she was reported missing. Police detained a man identified as Somveer Saini, who works at a nearby dhaba, on suspicion of involvement in the crime.
Saini is believed to have strangled the child to death. Police suspect the girl was sexually assaulted before being murdered as injury marks were found on her private parts. The girl's family has been living in one of the rooms of a three-story house near Haldi Ghati Gate for the past few months.
The victim's father worked at the same dhaba located next to the guest house, where Saini was also employed, said police. According to officials, the two men knew each other well, and Saini often visited the family's rented room.
DCP (west) Tejaswani Gautam said the incident came to light around 6pm when Pratap Nagar police station received information about the child's disappearance and launched a search operation.
"The girl had been missing since 3pm. After searching for her on their own for nearly three hours, her family informed police. We immediately rushed to the spot," said DCP Gautam.
During the search, officers found the girl's lifeless body on the rooftop of the house. An FSL team was called in to examine the scene and collect evidence. Senior officials, including additional police commissioner (crime) Kunwar Rashtradeep, also reached the spot to oversee the investigation.
"We have detained Somveer Saini and suspect that he murdered the girl. We are not ruling out sexual assault, but further examination will confirm the details," said Rashtradeep.
