Kendrapada: Jajpur district police on Tuesday busted a major job racket and arrested two persons, who allegedly cheated multiple job seekers of lakhs of rupees by promising them employment in private companies.
The accused, Chabindra Pradhan (31) from Lunibara village and Himanshu Das (53) from Jagannath Sahi, were arrested following a complaint filed by Kanhu Pradhan of Baramana village. The complainant alleged that the duo had taken Rs 50,000 from him four months ago, promising placement in a private company.
"Initial investigations reveal that the accused have duped several youths across Nihalaprasad, Jaraka, and Jenapur areas, collecting more than Rs 5 lakh through their fraudulent scheme," said Nirupama Jena, IIC of Jenapur police station. Police suspect the involvement of more persons in the racket and are continuing their investigation.
The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating, forgery, and fraudulent use of documents. They were produced in the Chandikhol court, which rejected their bail applications and remanded them to judicial custody.
