IndiGo, the airline of choice in India, is expanding its international footprint by launching flights using its newly acquired wide-body aircraft on the Delhi-Bangkok route.
In response to the rising demand for air travel, IndiGo has strategically leased a Boeing B787-9 wide-body aircraft from Norse Atlantic. This move precedes the scheduled arrival of XLRs in the fiscal year 2026 and A350s in 2027.
Embracing its vision of ‘India by IndiGo,’ the airline is collaborating with prestigious Indian brands to offer a taste of India’s finest on these flights. Passengers will experience IndiGoStretch and savor meals crafted by the skilled chefs of Oberoi Catering Services, accompanied by uniquely crafted beverages from Sula Vineyards, a renowned Indian winery. This initiative is a step forward in IndiGo’s mission to showcase India’s rich and innovative brands on a global scale.
Announcing the development, Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo says, “As India’s aviation sector
undergoes rapid transformation to keep pace with unprecedented growth in demand for travel,
IndiGo is well-positioned to lead this expansion. The early induction of our wide body aircraft
marks a significant milestone in our journey. Starting between Delhi and Bangkok, we intend to
shift to Europe from mid-Summer. We are thrilled to introduce the comfort of IndiGoStretch on
our regional international route, after the positive and encouraging feedback domestically. Our
roots and fundamentals are Indian but increasingly, the world is where we operate. As a proud
Indian brand IndiGo believes in great Indian brands supporting each other in going global. In line
with our promise of India by IndiGo, we are committed to partner with the best-in-class Indian
brands such as the Oberoi Catering Services, Sula and others for extending premium services to
IndiGoStretch customers.”
At the beginning of the year, IndiGo initiated a damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways, acquiring a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. IndiGo remains on the lookout for possibilities to lease more aircraft in the future.
This wide-body plane features a broad, double-aisle layout, equipped with 56 IndiGoStretch seats arranged in a cozy 2x3x2 setup, offering an expansive 43-inch seat pitch. The economy section is designed with 282 seats in a 3x3x3 arrangement, each providing a roomy 31-inch seat pitch, enhancing passenger comfort during flights.
In the latter half of November 2024, IndiGo debuted its custom business class service, IndiGoStretch, specifically tailored for India’s most frequented and commercially significant routes. Along the Delhi-Bangkok route, IndiGoStretch patrons receive exclusive perks such as priority check-in, flexible boarding times, early seat selection, and no convenience fees. Additionally, they benefit from an increased luggage allowance, which includes up to 30 kg for checked baggage and a single cabin bag up to 12 kg.
