Hyderabad: The
University Grants Commission (UGC) secretary, Manish R Joshi, called for promoting a multidisciplinary approach in higher education. Speaking at the valedictory of the three-day international conference on ‘Reinventing Disciplinarity through Indian Philosophical Ethos' at English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), he said it is important to seamlessly integrate the multidisciplinary approach to go beyond the boundaries of disciplines.
"There is a need for rediscovering the glory of Indian knowledge systems and utilising the ancient knowledge for modern innovation aimed at benefiting humankind," said Joshi, who participated in the event virtually. He asked the university to share the outcomes of the international conference to contribute to better policymaking in promoting the cross-pollination of ideas from different disciplines.
The vice chancellor (in charge) of the varsity, Haribandi Lakshmi, said the conference managed to bring together a galaxy of intellectuals onto a single platform in chalking out a strategy to reinvent the disciplinarity through Indian philosophical ethos. Over 100 participants from across the country presented papers in different technical sessions during the three-day conference.
Eminent Indologist from Canada, Jeffrey Armstrong, and Bhavatosh Indra Guru from Indian Research Information Network System were among others who made presentations at the conference.
