Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai: How did Rakesh Roshan found the gorgeous island where Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel fell in love?

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently revealed an interesting story behind the stunning island in Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai, where lead characters of the film found themselves stranded.

Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai was a blockbuster that marked the debuts of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel. Written, directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan, it is one of the best Bollywood romcoms of all times. Apart from engaging storyline, the film is also renowned for its melodious songs. One of the most memorable sequences of the movie was the island shot where Rohit (Hrithik) and Sonia (Ameesha) find themselves stuck on a beautiful yet isolated island. But do you know in reality which scenic place this was?

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan in an interview revealed an interesting story behind this location. He shared that during the film’s pre-production, he travelled to Australia to find a suitable ship for filming. However, none of the options he saw fascinated him. So, while looking for a perfect setting for the scene, he found a postcard in Athens. The postcard had a sailboat which caught his attention instantly. The other thing he was attracted to was another postcard behind it which featured unique rock formations in the middle of the sea.

The place was Krabi Island in Thailand. He was so fascinated by the place that he flew from Australia to Phuket and drove four hours to reach Krabi. The moment he arrived and saw the location, he instantly knew that this is what he wanted and was searching for a while. He called it, “the location I had always dreamed of.”

Rakesh Roshan said that whenever he starts working on a film, the first thing he does is explore different locations after finalising the script. “I dream about those locations and I will go to every corner of the world to find the location I have dreamt of,” he added.

Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai was released in theatres on January 14, 2000. Alongside Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel, the film stars Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Mohnish Bahl, Ashish Vidyarthi, Satish Shah, Farida Jalal, Asha Patel, Rajesh Tandon and Tannaz Irani.
