Patna: Congress, the main opposition party in the Lok Sabha, on Monday posed questions to PM Narendra Modi on his Bhagalpur visit, asking why Bihar has so far not been granted the status of "special category" as promised and why so many important projects of the state are lying incomplete.
"Where are the promised airports for Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Purnia?" asked the Congress general secretary in charge communications, Jairam Ramesh, while posting on X a series of questions to Modi during his Bihar visit.
"The PM promised an airport in Purnia on Aug 18, 2015. Six years and three U-turns by Nitish Kumar later, Modi govt is yet to fulfil the promise," Ramesh said.
Ramesh further pointed out that the PM, during a rally in 2019, promised to open Patahi airport near Muzaffarpur; and in 2023, home minister Amit Shah also pledged to kick-start operations at the Patahi airport, while the BJP promised a fully operational airport by Diwali 2023.
"However, an AAI ground team in March 2024 found that the land for the said airport has broken boundary walls, and buffaloes roam on the runway. What has the govt been doing for 10 years? Muzaffarpur joins Purnia and Bhagalpur as cities that need and deserve airports, but under the Bharatiya Jumla Party, all they get is broken promises. Why has the PM repeatedly lied to the people of Bihar on this subject?" the Congress functionary asked.
