A speeding jeep, driven by two doctors who were reportedly inebriated, collided with a motorcycle on National Highway-66 bypass at Akkulam on Monday. The incident resulted in one fatality and left another person seriously injured.

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Sriram, who was riding the motorcycle with his friend Shanu when the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. Both men, natives of Parassala, were employed as delivery executives for online food aggregators.

The jeep, driven by Vishnu, a doctor at a cooperative hospital in Kottarakara, and Athul, a postgraduate student at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College, is suspected to have veered off course before striking the motorcycle. The vehicle was registered under the name of Athul’s mother.

While Sriram succumbed to his grievous injuries at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital around 11.45 a.m., Shanu remains in critical condition. The Thumba police have taken both doctors into custody and registered a case.
