Lack of road forces people to carry body on doli for 3km in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: The residents of Kadambankombai, a tribal settlement in Nellithurai panchayat near Pillur dam, were forced to transport the body of a fellow villager on a doli in the absence of a motorable road.
According to the villagers, they were forced to carry the body of D Mani, 48, of Kadambankombai, for nearly three kilometres on the doli.
"Mani suffered a heart attack and died on Friday evening. After postmortem, his body was transported in an ambulance from the govt hospital at Mettupalayam to Neeradi area near Kadambankombai on Saturday evening. As the ambulance could not proceed further in the absence of a proper road, we had no other option but to carry the body on a doli for the remaining distance," a villager said.
Pointing out that around 30 families were residing at Kadambankombai, the residents said they had been requesting authorities to lay a proper road to the settlement for long, but with little success.
