Girl killed after bus knocks down bike

An eight-year-old girl S. Sanasri of Sholavandan, who was riding on a motorbike with her mother, was killed in a road accident on Pallapatti-Tirumangalam Road in Sholavandan on Saturday.

The police said that the mother, S. Vasuki, 30, was riding a bike with her two daughters, Sanasri, and Lakshmiha, 7. Sanasri was studying 4th standard. When the bike was proceeding near a workshop, a TNSTC bus knocked down the bike.

In the impact of the accident, all three fell down, but Sanasri sustained head injuries. She was rushed to the Government Hospital in Sholavandan. However, she did not respond to treatment and succumbed to injuries.

The Sholavandan police have booked a case against the driver S. Jayaseelan, 39, of Usilampatti.

Maharashtra man killed

In another accident under Vadipatti police station, S. Machindra Patel, 58, of Maharashtra was killed when a speeding car hit him on Dindigul-Madurai highway at Vadugapatti junction on Friday.

The police said that the deceased and his wife Surekhabhai were part of a tourists group which had been visiting temples in several States since February 11.

After visiting Kanniyakumari, Rameswaram and Madurai, the tourists were returning home in a charted bus.

The bus had stopped at Vadugapatti around midnight of Friday and the deceased had tried to cross the highway to attend nature’s call when a Karnataka-registered car hit him. He was rushed to the Government Hospital in Vadipatti. However, he was declared brought dead.

Vadipatti police are investigating.
