Guwahati: State cabinet on Sunday gave approval to plans to provide ‘interest-free vehicle loans' upto 15 lakh to faculty members at the state medical colleges in Assam upon joining. State govt will also cover their travel and accommodation expenses for domestic and international trips to attend academic seminars.
Cabinet approved these measures, aligning the benefits for medical college faculty (doctors) with those provided to AIIMS faculty members, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Moreover, the cabinet approved the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) Scheme, 2025, to support doctors serving as faculty members at medical colleges, ensuring career growth and retention in the state's medical institutions.
The CM said this initiative aims to encourage faculty members to continue their careers at state medical colleges instead of seeking opportunities at AIIMS facilities, which are being established across the country.
"In order to ensure that the doctors of the medical colleges can continue their research, the state govt has decided to allow them to attend two national-level seminars every year," Sarma said. He added that they will get necessary leaves and travel and accommodation charges will be reimbursed by the state govt. Similarly, once every two years, they will get the opportunity to attend a seminar in any other Asian country. Further, once every three years, they will be able to attend an academic seminar in the US or Europe.
"New AIIMS facilities are coming up across the country. Our professors resign to join AIIMS. We have taken these initiatives to ensure that we not lose human resources from Assam," Sarma said.
He added that doctors and faculty members will be able to attend seminars without taking money from medical companies, and as a result, ethical standards will be maintained.
