Beyond Carlton launches campaign to stay ahead of fires

Published - February 23, 2025 08:18 pm IST - Bengaluru

‘Aag se Aage Raho’, a social initiative that emphasises the need to be always prepared for emergencies was launched by Beyond Carlton on Sunday on account of Fire Safety Awareness and Prevention Day which is observed every year to mark the Carlton Towers fire tragedy that took place in 2010.

At an event marking the 15th anniversary of the accident that claimed nine lives, Beyond Carlton paid tribute to the victims of the 2010 fire tragedy with a candlelight tribute. The campaign, launched in English and Hindi, will also be brought out in Kannada shortly, the organisers said.

R.A. Venkitachalam, trustee of Beyond Carlton, emphasised critical fire hazards in India, noting that electrocution and kitchen gas explosions remain leading causes of fire incidents. He highlighted the pressing need for better coordination between various departments and the Fire and Emergency Services Personnel to mitigate such risks.

The recent report by Beyond Carlton, ‘Fire Safety in India’ was discussed and the need for credible data was highlighted. The report pointed out that most fires occur in residential dwellings and Beyond Carlton has partnered with Bangalore Apartments’ Federation to deliberate on leading efforts in fire safety in residential areas.

As has been the practice for many years now, several firefighters from the Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services were recognised for their work.
