City schools struggle to generate APAAR IDs, parents question move
Hyderabad: Creating Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) IDs for students has become a herculean task for schools in Hyderabad. They are unable to create an APAAR ID for about 50% of students due to a mismatch between details submitted during admission and the Aadhaar details of students. Parents have raised concerns about privacy and questioned the necessity of such an ID.
Sunir Nagi, academic director and principal of Delhi School, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), stated, "The board has asked schools to create APAAR for all students. But, in more than half of the cases, details are not matching." Schools have no choice but to ask parents to update their children's Aadhaar details or correct them in the school education department's database to eliminate mismatches.
Many schools have already circulated consent forms and sought permission from parents to use their child's Aadhaar details for generating APAAR ID. M Raghu Reddy, a parent whose child is in class 9 at one of the top schools in the city, said, "The consent form was collected months ago, but only recently were we told that the school is unable to generate APAAR for my child."
Some parents mentioned that a few schools are even asking for parents' Aadhaar cards to generate APAAR. K Srujana, a parent, said, "Along with the consent form, my son's school also asked for parents' Aadhaar details. I don't understand why our details are needed."
Schools affiliated with CBSE and ICSE have already started the process to generate APAAR IDs for their students. According to CBSE, the APAAR ID will be the primary identifier for students of affiliated schools.
