Kanpur: A man in Kanpur has been accused of killing four dogs and six puppies as part of occult practices.
Police said the accused buried the animals in a park in Kidwainagar after killing them and placed garlands, biscuits and water at the spot. The accused, who is in his late 20s, is on the run.
The incident came to light on Saturday when a local priest and some residents found the dogs missing from the park.
While searching for them, they found three small graves behind a room in the park.
They confronted the man who lives in the room but he denied killing the dogs. Instead he claimed that someone else had killed them and he merely buried the dogs and placed offerings. Later, he managed to escape.
The accused also damaged the CCTVs placed in the park. Police recovered a blood-stained stick from the park.
ADCP South Mahesh Kumar instructed the officials to register a case. Kidwainagar SHO Dharmendra Kumar said local resident Krishna Kumar Tiwari submitted a formal complaint and a case has been lodged against the man. Local residents said the accused suffers from mental health issues and might have killed the dogs as part of occult practices, the SHO added.
