Final preparations on for elephant safari at Harangi
Madikeri: The tourist hub of Kodagu is offering another reason for visitors to visit it. A new elephant safari will commence at Harangi Elephant Camp. Established in 2022, the Harangi camp joins Dubare and Mathigodu facilities in the district where eco-tourism is promoted.
The newly constructed jumbo camp, spanning approximately 40 acres along Harangi's right bank canal, complements existing attractions like Kushalnagar Nisargadhama, Dubare, and Harangi Dam.
The forest department has created sunset viewing points nearby. The Jungle Lodge and Resort's water sports activities in Harangi backwaters are drawing hundreds of daily visitors to this camp.
The elephant camp houses six elephants—Ekandanta, Lakshmana, Karna, Eshwara, Vikram, and Rama. The department has established necessary arrangements for the elephant safari, with final preparations going on.
To accommodate elderly visitors who find the one-kilometre walk from the main gate challenging, the forest department officials are planning to add electric vehicle services. Kushalnagar range forest officer Ratan Kumar said that there are plans for additional tourist facilities. The forest department has provided an electric car to facilitate tourists from the main gate to the centre, he explained.
