Ghaziabad: The Hindon Civil Terminal is preparing to launch new flight services to Kolkata, Goa and Bengaluru from March 1. In anticipation of the increased footfall at the terminal, the approach road to the terminal along with other civic amenities in the area are set for a revamp.
At a meeting of the Aerodrome Advisory Committee on Friday, chaired by Ghaziabad MP Atul Garg, officials discussed revamp work along with beautification work, and the addition of more routes. District magistrate Deepak Meena, municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik, and director of Hindon Civil Terminal Umesh Yadav were among the officials present at the meeting.
"The Hindon Civil Terminal will operate commercial flights on new routes from March, and in the days to come, efforts are being made to include more routes. It is important that the terminal has the look and feel of a decent airport," Garg said.
Garg went on to add that officials also discussed starting commercial operations on new routes like Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Lucknow from the terminal.
Meanwhile, director of Hindon Civil Terminal, Umesh Yadav, said that officials aim to introduce connectivity services from the airport to roadways, railways, Namo Bharat, and Metro. For this, a survey of passenger profiles has been proposed to ensure the viability of these services.
"Apart from that, the upgradation of all airport-related facilities to enhance passenger facilitation, like round-the-clock medical and ambulance services and increased police patrolling for the safety and security of commuters, were discussed in detail," Yadav added.
Municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik was apprised of the lack of a sewer line connection with the terminal, to which he assured that work is in progress and that the STP will be made operational in one year, officials said.
"Beautification of roads, signages, and broadening of roads is also on the agenda, which GMC will take up very soon," the municipal commissioner said.
Meanwhile, Air India Express will commence commercial flight operations from Hindon Civil Terminal on three new routes – Kolkata, Goa, and Bengaluru – from March 1. While Hindon will serve as a connection terminal between Kolkata and Goa, there will also be a direct flight service to Bengaluru from Hindon starting March 2.
Officials said that flights will operate on these three routes all seven days of the week, and bookings on these routes have also started.
Garg said that due to the underutilisation of the terminal, which was inaugurated in 2019, it was currently incurring a loss of Rs 60 crore per year.
Currently, flight services are active on five routes at the terminal – Nanded, Adampur, Bhatinda, Kishaganj, and Ludhiana.
