Gorakhpur: Shakir Khan, a key litigant in the Madani mosque case in Hata, Kushinagar, passed away due to a heart attack on Friday morning. He was the eldest son of Haji Hamid. His funeral was held after the afternoon prayers at the cemetery near NH-28.
Khan suffered a heart attack on Thursday evening and was taken to a private hospital in Lucknow. Despite receiving treatment, he succumbed to the ailment on Friday morning. His family claims he had been in deep distress since the demolition of the mosque.
The 26-year-old Madani mosque, located in Hata municipality, was recently demolished by the administration. On Feb 9, a large-scale operation was led by Hata SDM and CO Kasaya using nine machines to bring down the mosque's unauthorised sections. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday has reprimanded the UP govt over the demolition, issuing contempt notices to key officials, Hamid said.
