Lucknow: Speaker Satish Mahana on Friday expressed his displeasure over thin attendance of MLAs in the House saying that the conduct of legislators was unwarranted.
Mahana waived a slip containing a long list of MLAs who had sought exemption from the House proceedings citing their personal engagements. "Running the House was not my sole responsibility," Mahana said in the afternoon when MLAs were expected to speak on the governor's joint address in the assembly.
Some of the MLAs requested the Speaker to extend the House but he turned down the request. "I have a list of MLAs who left the House but wanted me to accept their attendance," he said. Most of the absent MLAs had cited their personal engagements in various functions, including attending marriages etc. The Speaker said he would not allow delay in taking up notices and petitions under different rules from Monday.
