The 252nd State executive committee meeting of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) ended abruptly after some members indulged in shouting slogans against the other group on Saturday.

The meeting was convened by State president Jagannathan. Over 300 delegates from various parts of Tamil Nadu arrived to participate in the EC meeting.

The organisers had planned to have the meeting at a private kalyana mandapam on Round Road.

According to information from some of the EC members who participated, a group of people led by INTUC general secretary Panneerselvam arrived at the venue and his supporters were present.

At this juncture, another group of people led by Mr. Jagannathan, who arrived at the venue, objected to the conduct of the meeting in their absence.

Trouble started when some of the members raised doubts over the sale of some immovables in the name of the INTUC. The factions belonging to the secretary and the president were engaged in a war of words for about 10 minutes. Suddenly, a few present started tearing the banner and hurled chairs.

As the situation appeared tense, the police were informed. A large posse of police personnel arrived and the situation was brought under control.

However, the group led by Mr. Panneerselvam decided to step out of the venue and the other faction present conducted the meeting presided by Mr. Jagannathan.
