Dow Falls 700 Points. Stocks Are Sliding to Close Out the Week.
The stock market’s slide picked up in afternoon trading.
The Dow was down 718 points, or 1.6%, in recent trading. The S&P 500 was down 1.4%. The Nasdaq Composite was down 1.7%.
UnitedHealth accounted for roughly half of the Dow’s decline with an 8.9% drop, but only 11 of the index’s 30 stocks were rising on the day. S&P 500 breadth was similarly rough; only 131 S&P 500 stocks were gaining.
