Hyderabad: Several students at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Jadcherla campus fell ill in what appears to be a severe case of food poisoning following dinner service on Wednesday. At least 27 students were hospitalised on Thursday after experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting, nausea, and fainting.
"Students began falling sick the morning after dinner. Around 39 of us were fainting and vomiting multiple times, while nearly 167 students reported severe discomfort," said a student. The affected students were initially treated in the college library due to insufficient medical facilities.
NMIMS administration, however, presented different figures. "27 students out of 1,200 residents reported symptoms of illness after consuming food at the campus mess," the college said. The institution maintained that "immediate medical attention was provided under the guidance of expert doctors" and that all affected students are now stable.
The situation escalated when MLA Anirudh Reddy visited the campus following reports of students being denied medical care. "We took up the issue with the campus administration and referred them to hospitals," police said. Students claim they previously raised concerns about food quality on campus. The incident has sparked demands for the removal of the current mess caterer and calls for an investigation.
The college announced plans to implement strict guidelines on external foods, but the affected students argue that the contamination originated from mess food
