Minister showcases Mizoram’s trust culture at national summit
Aizawl: Mizoram social welfare & tribal affairs and women & child minister Lalrinpuii highlighted the trustworthiness of the people of Mizoram, as evidenced by the presence of 'Nghah loh dawr' (shops without shopkeepers) where vegetables and fruits are sold on an honour system.
Lalrinpuii made this statement while addressing the 'National Tribal Livelihoods Summit, 2025' held in Delhi on Friday. The event, sponsored by the Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF) and Axis Bank Foundation (ABF), was attended by representatives from mega funding agencies, public sector units, international development sectors, union ministries, and state govts.
She emphasised Mizoram's potential despite being the remotest state in the country. "Being a landlocked state with a small population, Mizoram faces significant challenges, as it is sandwiched between two foreign countries. Only a few funding agencies have entered the state, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions have been minimal," she said.
The minister called on the summit attendees to commit to developing the tiny north-eastern state with proper planning.
The BRLF, established by the central government in 2013 as an autonomous society, aims to help tribal communities find permanent livelihoods. It now operates in ten states, working with funds from the centre and CSR funding from large foundations to uplift marginalised tribal communities.
An official statement stated that the govt is making arrangements for the BRLF to enter Mizoram.
