4,700km of roads to be renovated: Dy CM
Patna: Deputy CM and road construction minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Friday announced that the state will renovate 4,700km of roads this year. The initiative falls under the Long-Term Road Maintenance (OPRMC) policy, which covers 1,300 roads spanning approximately 10,200km across Bihar. The state govt has allocated Rs 6,655 crore for road maintenance over a seven-year period under this scheme.
"Under the OPRMC policy, roads are consistently maintained across the state. Except for Sherghati, Muzaffarpur and Banka, agreements have been signed with contractors in all other districts. These agreements, effective from 2019 to 2026, require contractors to repair roads regularly and renew them every four years," Sinha said.
However, the minister revealed that some instances of unnecessary road renewals for contractor benefits had been identified. "A detailed investigation has been ordered into these cases and a report is expected within 15 days," he said.
Sinha also asked engineers to expedite the 4,700km road renewal project and conduct on-site inspections. "Providing smooth transportation for the public is a priority. Regular monitoring of roads under the OPRMC policy is essential to ensure timely repairs. Contractors receive a fixed amount for maintenance, and engineers must ensure that necessary repairs are carried out properly," he added.
