Barbados Signs Historic Agreement for Martinique’s Accession to CARICOM at 48th Heads of Government Meeting

At the 48th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Barbados, a landmark agreement was signed by Barbados’ Prime Minister, Hon. Mia Mottley, in her role as CARICOM Chairman, and Serge Letchimy, President of the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique (CTM). This agreement paves the way for Martinique’s accession to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), marking a pivotal step in the island’s regional integration efforts.

This milestone follows Martinique’s decade-long pursuit of CARICOM membership, after officially applying more than ten years ago. However, before its status as an Associate Member becomes official, the final step remains: ratification of the Protocol on Privileges and Immunities by the French National Assembly.

About the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique (CTM)
