Chandigarh: As the final lists of candidates for the civic body polls are out, the Haryana BJP has deployed the heavyweights to ensure that the party makes a clean sweep in these elections.
The saffron party on Wednesday released a list of state heavyweights for election management and campaigning in the civic polls. The party has forwarded the list of these leaders to the state election commission and returning officers as well.
Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini along with senior leader and former minister Subhash Sudha would personally look after the Thanesar municipal council polls, Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar and four MLAs from the Karnal parliamentary constituency would look after the Karnal municipal corporation polls.
Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli along with Sonipat MLA, former mayor Nikhil Madan and a minister would look after the mayoral bypoll in Sonipat. The byelection has been necessitated due to Madan's resignation.
Similarly, Union ministers Krishan Pal Gujjar and Rao Inderjit Singh, accompanied by the local MLAs and ministers of their areas, will be overseeing the management of civic body polls in the Faridabad and Gurugram parliamentary constituencies.
The party has finalised the list of candidates for the civic body elections in recommendation and consultation with Krishan Pal Gujjar, Rao Inderjit Singh, Haryana cabinet ministers and MLAs representing the constituencies.
Unlike assembly elections, this time, for Ambala Cantonment municipal council polls and mayoral byelection for Ambala City, the party is relying on a four-member team comprising minister Anil Vij, Kalka MLA Shakti Rani Sharma, former minister Aseem Goel, and Banto Kataria.
Tourism minister Arvind Sharma will be heading the team of five senior leaders – former minister Manish Grover, minister Shruti Choudhary, former mayor Renu Bala Dabla and Deepak Hooda – in Rohtak.
Minister Ranbir Gangwa will be in charge of the Hisar municipal corporation polls. He will be accompanied by Hisar MLA Savitri Jindal, local leader Randhir Panihar, and Surinder Punia.
In Panipat, minister Krishan Lal Pawanr, accompanied by cabinet colleague Mahipal Dhanda, local MLA Parmod Vij and BJP general secretary Archana Gupta will manage the affairs.
The responsibility for the civic polls in Yamunanagar has been given to minister Shyam Singh Rana, MLA Ghanshyam Arora and senior BJP leader Banto Kataria.
Interestingly, Saini and Badoli on Tuesday said that BJP would be contesting the civic body polls on the lines of the assembly elections.
