New Delhi: Several political leaders, including home minister
Amit Shah and defence minister Rajnath Singh, on Wednesday congratulated Rekha Gupta on being elected as the Delhi's chief minister designate.
Shah posted on X in Hindi: "I heartily congratulate Rekha Gupta ji on being elected the leader of the BJP legislative party. I have full faith that you will work with dedication in the direction of the resolution taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Delhi one of the top capitals of the world. I am confident that BJP govt under your leadership will work day and night to fulfil the hopes and expectations that the mothers and sisters of Delhi have blessed BJP with."
"Many congratulations and best wishes to Rekha Gupta ji on being elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party in Delhi. I firmly believe that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with his efforts, Delhi will become the developed capital of developed India," Singh posted on X.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and his Haryana and Rajasthan counterparts Nayab Singh Saini and Bhajanlal Sharma, Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj and former Union minister Harsh Vardhan were among some other BJP leaders who congratulated Gupta.
In the 2025 assembly elections, BJP secured 48 seats, establishing a clear majority in the 70-member assembly. The party's pre-election commitments included the Yamuna river restoration, elimination of three landfills, implementation of Mahila Samriddhi Yojana with Rs 2,500 payments to eligible women, and extending Ayushman Bharat Yojana benefits to Delhi residents.
Former chief minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal posted on social media: "Many congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on becoming the chief minister of Delhi. I hope that she will fulfil all the promises made to the people of Delhi. We will support them in every work for the development and welfare of the people of Delhi."
Outgoing CM
Atishi also expressed her wishes on social media, stating: "It is a matter of happiness that Delhi will be led by a woman. I hope that the promises made to the people of Delhi will be fulfilled. You will get full support of AAP for the development of Delhi."
Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, BJP's south Delhi MP who played a key role in crafting the Delhi manifesto through stakeholder consultations, expressed confidence that Gupta would serve as Delhi's finest chief minister. "Our party has always been a pioneer in women empowerment and this is another example of that. Delhi will now become the developed and prosperous capital of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dreams," he said.
Congress urged the CM designate to avoid divisive politics and prioritise manifesto commitments. DPCC chairman Devender Yadav urged her to work towards safeguarding the interests of the people of Delhi.
NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal highlighted Gupta's experience, noting, "She has been a councillor thrice and she started her political career from Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections. In her long public life, she paid special attention to important issues like education, women empowerment and urban development. Her leadership abilities and commitment to work at the grassroots level made her popular among the public."
After the announcement of her name, Gupta thanked top leadership for trusting her and giving her the responsibility. "Your trust and support gave me new energy and inspiration. I pledge that I will work with complete honesty, dedication and dedication for the welfare, empowerment and overall development of every citizen of Delhi. I am fully committed to this important opportunity to take Delhi to new heights," she stated on X.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, an RSS-affiliated student organisation, also expressed happiness over her appointment as the chief minister. "On behalf of ABVP, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on becoming the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi. As a former student activist, she actively championed student issues, including the introduction of university special buses and women's empowerment in her DUSU election manifesto. We are confident that she will continue working on youth-related concerns in Delhi, such as unemployment, health, education, and educational infrastructure," said Shivangi Kharwal, ABVP's national secretary.
