Deportation of youth from US an important lesson for all: Mann
Chandigarh: Chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said the recent deportation of youth from the US "serves as an important lesson for all of us", emphasising that instead of seeking opportunities abroad, the state's youngsters should strive for success within Punjab.
Speaking at an event at Municipal Bhawan, where he handed over appointment letters to 497 youth, Mann highlighted that the state govt was providing numerous opportunities for the young people to excel in various fields.
The appointment letters were distributed to candidates for jobs in the water supply and sanitation department, school education department, higher education and languages department, rural development department, and the science, technology and environment department.
Mann claimed that Punjab was witnessing a trend of reverse migration, with youth who previously settled abroad now returning to join govt service. He cited instances where individuals received multiple job offers in Punjab within a year.
He shared examples of a couple who returned from Canada to take up govt jobs and a young man who abandoned plans to move abroad after securing employment in Punjab.
The CM said 50,892 youth secured govt jobs in Punjab through hard work, dedication, and commitment. He claimed that his govt provided a record number of jobs within just 35 months of coming to power.
He expressed hope that the new recruits would actively contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
Mann emphasised that all jobs were awarded purely on merit, without any corruption or nepotism. He criticised the opposition parties for making baseless allegations, arguing that they failed to acknowledge these employment opportunities because they never provided jobs to the youth during their tenure. "Even when they did, the jobs were reserved for their close relatives or associates," he remarked.
The CM said the govt promptly filled vacancies as they arise, following a foolproof recruitment process. He highlighted that, to date, not a single one of the nearly 50,000 appointments was legally challenged, underscoring the transparency of the system.
Mann envisioned that these jobs would transform the future of Punjab's youth. He said the govt's consistent efforts to provide employment opportunities reflected its commitment to the well-being of its youth and to opening new avenues for growth.
BOX: Couple says have returned form abroad for govt jobs
The newly-appointed youth who received job letters thanked the state govt for providing them employment based on merit. Sharing his experience, Sukhpreet Singh expressed gratitude to the chief minister, stating that he and his wife, Harpreet Kaur, had returned from abroad to join as assistant professors. He emphasised that there is no longer a need to go overseas, as the state govt is creating ample opportunities for them.
Similarly, Dr Alka Kalyan said it was a matter of great satisfaction that they secured jobs purely on merit. She highlighted that 1,158 assistant professors received strong support from the state govt. She noted that, after 30 years, colleges in the state finally appointed professors, with selections made entirely on merit.
