Munde: Maha keen on deal with Tripura for bamboo mission
Agartala: Maharashtra govt has shown interest in signing an MoU with Tripura to boost its bamboo industry and enterprises.
This was revealed by Maharashtra environment and climate change minister Pankaja Gopinath Munde here on Wednesday. Munde arrived here on Tuesday along with Maharashtra chief secretary Vinita Singhal to attend a review meeting at the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute. During her two-day visit, she also spoke to bamboo growers and artisans in Tripura.
"After understanding various aspects related to bamboo — its cultivation, industrial applications, and necessary climatic conditions — our govt is keen on signing an MoU with Tripura to implement a similar bamboo mission in Maharashtra," she said. She added besides doing certain suitable modifications, bamboo can be used in construction activities and possesses immense potential to give employment to the rural populace. Hundreds of value-added items can be produced through bamboo and it can also be a substitute for firewood.
The potential collaboration could lead to advancements in bamboo-based industries, benefiting both the states economically and environmentally.
