Oman Air, the national carrier of Oman, is taking a major step forward in optimizing its operations with the introduction of an all-economy Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on its India routes. To cater to price-sensitive passengers, Oman Air has launched a specialized sub-fleet called Oman Air Connect. This new fleet will operate on select routes to India, Africa, and West Asia, ensuring affordable travel without compromising passenger comfort.

The first of five Boeing 737 MAX aircraft configured for all-economy seating has officially entered service. Oman Air has deployed this aircraft to Kozhikode and Lucknow—two high-traffic destinations in India. Previously, these routes were served by dual-class Boeing 737s, which offered 162 or 183 seats. The newly introduced aircraft, with a 189-seat capacity, allows the airline to accommodate more passengers and offer competitive fares, aligning with shifting travel preferences.

Oman Air’s decision to introduce all-economy aircraft comes amid growing competition and evolving travel patterns in the India-Oman aviation corridor. Currently, the airline operates 96 flights per week across ten Indian cities. However, flight frequencies between India and Oman have dropped by **10% year-over-year, while overall seat capacity in the broader West Asia region has increased by 5%.
Competing carriers such as Air India Express, Akasa Air, and IndiGo have aggressively expanded services, particularly to hubs like Abu Dhabi and Dammam. Additionally, budget carriers like Salam Air and Air India Express are already operating between Muscat and key Indian destinations, offering lower fares. Despite this, Oman Air aims to stand out by maintaining a full-service experience even on its all-economy aircraft, blending affordability with premium onboard services.
