Patna: Even as the NDA has been holding joint workers' conferences for over a month to display unity among its allies, LJP (RV) MP from Khagaria,
Rajesh Verma, and JD(U) MLA from Parbatta,
Sanjeev Kumar, have indulged in a bitter verbal duel.
Sources said the trouble began after both the netas started taking credit for the development projects announced by CM Nitish Kumar during his recent Pragati Yatra to the district.
Parbatta MLA, while launching bitter attack on the MP, claimed it was due to his sustained efforts that a govt medical college and power stations were announced for Khagaria, but now someone else is taking credit for it. "I will set him right if he comes in my way. I am a doctor and know very well how to treat the ailment," Kumar threatened the MP while talking to reporters on Tuesday.
The MLA also threatened to take up arms and fight the battle head-on. "If I feel my honour is threatened, I will take up arms," he threatened the opponent, asking him to be alert.
The MP reacted by stating that no one could threaten him as the time of taking up arms is over. "No one can threaten me. He (MLA) must learn from Ramayana how a small monkey set the Lanka of Ravana afire," Verma warned, charging the MLA with hurling abuses at a particular community.
Rejecting the MLA's threat of taking up arms, the MP said such things were prevalent before 2005 when RJD was in power. "Now, this phase is over, and those who are still trying to show their muscle power will get finished very soon," Verma, who is considered close to party chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan, warned. He mentioned that the people would teach a lesson to such persons in the upcoming assembly elections.
The JD (U) reacted cautiously to the incident. "Both sides should maintain dignity," JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said. However, the RJD stated that both the JD (U) and the LJP (RV) were indulging in a war of taking credit, which has now turned nasty. "Instead of indulging in war of taking credit, they must work for the welfare of the people," RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad said.
