Various political parties and political organisations on Tuesday decided to stage a black flag protest during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Coimbatore on February 26.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by K. Ramakrishnan, founder of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, at the Periyar Study Centre at Gandhipuram on Tuesday evening.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the CPI(M), CPI, Dravidar Kazhagam, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Aathi Thamizhar Peravai, Dravida Tamilar Katchi, Tamil Nadu Dravidar Suyamariyathai Kazhagam, Makkal Adhikaram, May 17 Movement, Puratchikara Ilaignar Munnani, Dravida Iyakka Thamizhar Peravai, Anti-Imperialist Movement, CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi and India Ottrumai Iyakkam.

The meeting resolved to stage a black flag protest against Mr. Shah for insulting B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament and condemning the Union government, accusing it of imposing the trilingual policy on Tamil Nadu, ignoring Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget, deceiving Tamil Nadu by not providing funds for educational schemes.

BJP sources said that Mr. Shah will inaugurate the party’s new office complex in the city on February 26 and take part in the Maha Shivaratri celebrations at the Isha Yoga Foundation.
