Guwahati: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has stepped up its efforts to clean the city ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit. In addition to the ongoing Guwahati Swachhata Abhiyan, the civic body is putting in additional efforts to sweep, dust, remove stainsin pulic places and water plants on dividers, said GMC assistant commissioner on Monday.
He said sweeping machines are being deployed across the city, covering nearly 300 kilometers of streets and main roads as the business summit nears. "We have deployed four sweeping machines, two of which cover 50 kilometres and the other two cover 35 kilometres daily. The machines are running at night to not disrupt traffic. Usually, we cover 170 kilometers every day, but ahead of Advantage Assam, we have doubled shifts to cover 280 to 300 kilometers," he added.
"We are also working to control dust pollution with regular dusting and sweeping. We are removing spit stains and watering the trees on dividers across the city," the GMC official said.
