CM likely to lay stone for new PMC building on Feb 21
Patna: Detailed project report (DPR) of the new state-of-the-art building of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters at Hardinge Road is ready, and the agency for construction has been selected through the bidding process.
The foundation stone for the new building is likely to be laid by the end of this month after a formal announcement of the project by CM Nitish Kumar during his Pragati Yatra on Feb 21. The new PMC headquarters will replace the existing New Capital Circle (NCC) office, according to the PMC officials.
Indradeep Chandravanshi, a member of the PMC's standing committee and councillor of ward no. 48, said: "The new headquarters building will serve as a one-stop shop for all civic amenities. The proposed building, estimated to cost Rs 27.62 crore, will be a five-storey (B+G+4) structure with a basement and ground floor for parking and other facilities. Half of the project cost will be borne by the urban development and housing department, while the remaining will be spent by the PMC."
He further said spread over 37,973 square feet, the construction work will be done only on 40% of the area, which is 15,808 square feet of the land, leaving a green belt and setback of the building. The construction work is expected to be completed within nine months of the commencement of the project.
The B+G+4 building will house various civic amenities, including counters for birth and death certificates, revenue counters, and grievance redressal offices. "The basement and ground floor will have parking space, a control and command centre, a vehicle tracking centre, and other facilities. The first and second floors will have offices of the mayor, deputy mayor, municipal commissioner, and other branch offices of the corporation. The third and fourth floors will have an urban innovation centre, IT cell, SBM training centre, and control room," said Chandravanshi.
The building will be equipped with modern technology, including CCTV cameras, firefighting equipment, and a workshop for PMC vehicles. It will also be a green building, incorporating environmentally friendly and resource-efficient measures. "The campus of the NCC office was vacated, while the demolition work will begin after a formal announcement by the Bihar CM. The NCC office will be demolished to make way for the new building. Once completed, the new PMC headquarters is expected to provide citizens with a convenient and efficient way to access various civic amenities under one roof," Chandravanshi added.
