Lucknow: The fourth edition of ‘Maayan Mahotsav' saw the celebration of the role of mothers, who are the unsung heroes of our life.
The festival, held at Itaunja on Sunday, also focussed on bringing to the front the people who have been sent in the world with special challenges by the God. The main theme of the festival this year was dedicated to the service of visually impairedDivyangs'. The programme was inaugurated by social welfare minister Asim Arun and it began with a song. The disabled people presented a braille book to the minister in which poetry of renowned poet Bashir Badr was written.
Asim Arun, while praising the courage of disabled people, said, "Such events bring society closer to them."
"The main objective of the event was to make the life of Divyang brothers easier, dignified and socially enjoyable. The festival enthralled and mesmerized the guests from the city with its fascinating blend of two diverse cultures," he added.
BSF warrior Sandeep Mishra who had lost his eyesight while bravely fighting the terrorists was felicitated on the occasion.
Commandant Mishra was honoured with the President's Gallantry Medal.
Meanwhile, a number of performances by a group of visually impaired 'Divyangs' from Meet Welfare Foundation (MWF) were performed. In the end, in honour of the disabled warriors, Lucknow's famous Ghazal singer Dr Prabha Srivastava presented soulful and melodious ghazals.
Rohit Meet informed that Meet Welfare Foundation is currently actively involved in providing the necessary institutional facilities and social opportunities for visually impaired children.
Organiser AP Maheshwari, retired DG, CRPF, said, "The main motive of the festival was to connect the urban and rural people of society with each other."
