Winter storm watch starts Tuesday: Snow, single digit temps in Memphis forecast this week
Winter is coming to the Mid-South again this week.
Memphians can expect to see frigid temperatures and snow starting 12 p.m. Tuesday and carrying into Wednesday, according to a forecast put out by National Weather Service Memphis.
Memphis could see snow totals of roughly 1 and a half inches, according to the NWS Memphis forecast. Areas north of Memphis, like Jackson, should expect more than 2 inches.

The NWS Memphis issued a winter storm watch for Memphis and the surrounding areas on Feb. 16 starting at noon on Feb. 18 and continuing into the following day.

Monday, Memphians can expect no precipitation but will encounter below-freezing temperatures in the morning, according to the NWS Memphis forecast. The high for Monday will be in the lower 40s with sunny skies.
Tuesday, the high for the day will be 40 degrees and the low will be 22 degrees. Snow will move into the Memphis area Tuesday evening.
The chance of precipitation Tuesday night is 100%, according to the NWS Memphis forecast.
Wednesday will be cold, with the highs for the day being in the mid-twenties and the low being 9 degrees.
Memphis is expected to not be above 30 degrees until the weekend, with Saturday's high being 43 degrees.
What does a winter storm warning mean?
A winter storm warning is issued normally 24 hours in advance of a storm and indicates the risk of winter weather has increased but the time, location or occurrence is still uncertain, according to the NWS.
A warning indicates there is at least a 50% chance of the storm happening.
How much snow is expected Tuesday?
Memphis and the surrounding areas can expect to see anywhere between 1 and 3 inches of snow on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
