ACB arrests govt steno, his aide over Rs 50k bribe
New Delhi: The anti-corruption branch (ACB) of Delhi govt arrested a govt stenographer and his private accomplice for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
According to ACB chief Madhur Verma, the accused, identified as Mohit Yadav, a stenographer with the trade & taxes department, and his accomplice Chandan Kumar were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from a complainant, who runs a business of electronic goods.
According to ACB, the complainant's GST registration was suspended by the GST officer concerned on frivolous grounds. "The complainant submitted requisite documents and fine to the department following the notice dated Jan 9. Thereafter, on several occasions, the complainant met the officer and his stenographer, Yadav, with a request to revoke the suspension," Verma said.
The complainant alleged that Yadav demanded Rs 50,000 to revoke the suspension at the behest of his senior.
The ACP prepared a raiding team and reached the department office at Vyapar Bhavan in IP Estate. The complainant and a witness met Yadav, who allegedly directed the victim to hand over the bribe money to Kumar. The ACB team stepped in after getting a signal from the witness, and apprehended both.
During the search, additional Rs 74,400 was recovered from Kumar, who claimed it was collected from others. However, he couldn't provide any further information on them. ACB has registered a case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act.
