However, after a series of flops, he struggled to deliver solo hit for 22 years and was nearly forgotten by the public- until one film brought him back into limelight. We are talking about none other than Sunny Deol.
Son of legendary actor Dharmendra, Sunny started his career in 1993 with Betaab. Since then, he starred in several superhit films including, Arjun, Dacait, Tridev, and ChaalBaaz. In 1990, Sunny earned the title of action star with his leading role in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ghayal. Following that, he went on to deliver a series of blockbuster action films including Narsimha, Damini, Jeet, Ghatak, Ziddi, Border, and Arjun Pandit.

In 2001, Sunny Deol starred in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Helmed by Anil Sharma, the film received tremendous response at the box office. The period action drama , co-starring Ameesha Patel, grossed Rs 132 crore worldwide. Gadar became one of Sunny’s biggest hit and an all-time blockbuster.
After Gadar released, Sunny appeared in over 30 films that failed at the box office. For over 22 years, the actor didn’t have a solo hit, and several of his films turned into a major disaster. Some of these flops include, Blank, Chup, Bhaiyaji Superhit, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, Poster Boys, Mohalla Assi, Ghayal Once Again, I Love NY, Khuda Kasam, Singh Saab The Great, Kaafila, Fox, Big Brother, Naksha, Right or Wrong, Heroes and more.
In 2023, Sunny reprised the iconic role of Tara Singh in the sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Made on an estimated budget of Rs 60 crore, Gadar 2 grossed Rs 686 crore worldwide, becoming the fourth highest-grossing film of 2023.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Sunny will be next seen in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947, produced by Aamir Khan.
