Slum dwellers in Worli protest BMC's road widening proposal, launch signature campaign
Mumbai: On Saturday, slum dwellers from Worli's Markandeshwar Nagar came out opposing the BMC's proposal for the widening of a road that would affect their homes.
Slum dwellers launched a signature campaign and decided to meet with the authorities on Feb 17 to submit a memorandum requesting the cancellation of the road proposal.
"On Feb 12, the municipal corporation's road department put up a public notice regarding an 18-meter new road proposal in Markandeshwar Nagar, Worli. This left the slum dwellers confused, as there was no demand from the citizens for such a road. The municipal corporation did not seek any suggestions or objections from the local residents concerning the road line," said local activist Santosh Daundkar.
