PGI’s new ‘Digi Seva’ to cut waiting time, streamline patient care
Chandigarh: PGI has launched "Digi Seva PGI," an online registration and priority consultation system designed to revolutionise patient care, particularly for follow-up appointments. Inspired by the streamlined efficiency of airport DigiYatra, this initiative promises a more patient-centric experience.
"Digi Seva marks a major step forward in patient-centred healthcare. The introduction of priority-based consultations ensures that those in need receive timely medical attention, making hospital visits smoother and more efficient," said PGI director Prof Vivek Lal.
Previously, patients returning for follow-up appointments at PGI often endured lengthy wait time, sometimes spending hours at the hospital. Digi Seva tackles this problem. The system allows patients to get appointment slots online at the time of follow-up by doctors, guaranteeing a dedicated room and consultation time. This eliminates the oft-repeated "come back later" message and ensures that patients are examined promptly.
"A separate counter and dedicated rooms are allocated specifically for online bookings, prioritising such patients. Offline patients will not be examined in these dedicated rooms during pre-booked slots. The system has already demonstrated remarkable success in its pilot phase at the Liver Clinic, where patients who previously waited four to five hours were examined within an hour," said Pankaj Rai, deputy director, administration, PGI.
During the pilot programme at the Liver Clinic, around 450 patients registered through Digi Seva in just one month, highlighting its popularity and effectiveness. Based on this success, the system is now being expanded to the departments of skin, orthopaedics, and endocrinology.
Rai said, "Designed to be secure, user-friendly and available in multiple languages, this initiative aligns with national digital health goals and sets a new standard for smart healthcare services."
