Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A newborn girl, later named ‘Pihu,’ survived a horrifying attack after her grandmother slit her throat and abandoned her in a dustbin in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh town.

Despite severe injuries, doctors at Bhopal’s Kamla Nehru Hospital saved her life after multiple surgeries.

According to TOI, passersby heard the baby’s cries and found her in the trash. They immediately informed the police, who rushed her to the Civil Hospital. Pachor police station in-charge Akhilesh Verma said that doctors found a deep cut on her throat caused by a sharp weapon.

Pihu was later moved to Kamla Nehru Hospital in Bhopal, where doctors worked tirelessly to save her. Though the wound was serious, it missed vital veins and arteries, giving her a chance to survive.

After a month of intensive care and multiple surgeries, doctors declared her out of danger and discharged her on Friday.

“It took us over a month to treat her. She had serious injuries, but she bravely fought and survived. She has now been sent to a shelter home in Rajgarh with the permission of the Child Welfare Committee,” said Dr. Dheerendra Shrivastav, HOD of Kamla Nehru Hospital.

The police launched an investigation, checked CCTV footage, and arrested Pihu’s mother and grandmother for their involvement in the crime.

While Pihu’s survival is nothing short of a miracle, doctors revealed that this was the third such case in the last few months.
