Annamalai, Vasan condemn murder of two youth in Mayiladuthurai

BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai and Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Saturday (February 15, 2025) condemned the murder of two youth, who were reportedly attacked for questioning the sale of illicit liquor in their village in Mayiladuthurai district.

In a social media post, Mr. Annamalai expressed shock over the double murder and said the sale of illicit liquor goes unchecked in the State. “Illicit liquor is flowing like a river in Tamil Nadu. Are the local police unaware of the sale of illicit liquor in that area? Two youths had lost their lives because they questioned bootlegging… Tamil Nadu is currently going through a worse situation than the dark period of DMK’s rule between 2006 and 2011. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should realise that his incompetence would provoke the people of the State.”

Mr. Vasan, in a statement, said the murder of two youth is a reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. He also recollected the incidents in Kallakurichi and Marakkanam in the last couple of years wherein several persons died after consuming spurious liquor. “What is the Prohibition Enforcement Wing doing in the State? The intelligence mechanism of the State completely failed to check the sale of illicit liquor,” he said.

The district police, in a statement, however, dismissed allegations linking the double murder to illicit liquor sales, clarifying that the incident was triggered by a verbal dispute among men from the same locality.
