Special police drive against bike stunts on Sumanahalli flyover, eight held

Published - February 15, 2025 09:25 pm IST - Bengaluru

The bikers in the city have made the Sumanahalli flyover on Outer Ring Road (ORR) their new destination for performing stunts and wheeling. Gangs of youth from many parts of the city come here during the wee hours to perform stunts.

During a special drive on Thursday , Kamakshipalya Traffic Police booked eight two-wheeler riders for performing wheeling on this flyover stretch. The police seized six other two-wheelers after bikers abandoned them and fled on sight of the police.

A 28-year-old youth identified as Abhishek, from Rajajinagar, slipped from the bike and sustained injuries while he tried to escape from the police and dodge the barricades put up to stop those performing bike stunts. He is being treated at a private hospital. Meanwhile, the traffic police also managed to pin down Girish, 19, from Hanumanth Nagar, Syed Suhail, 19, and Naveed, 24, from Nandini Layout, who were caught performing wheeling.

“These groups move on the flyovers in groups to record the video of them performing bike stunts to post on social media. These gangs communicate through WhatsApp groups, to share locations and timings of the bike stunts,” a senior traffic police official said.

To counter them, the traffic police have started checking the bikes if they have scratches on the mudguards and exhaust pipes at the rear end, indicating that the bikes have been used to perform stunts. This will help the police to record their details and keep a check on them, a senior police officer said.
