Varanasi: In view of crowd control and ensuring smooth movement for devotees from Prayagraj Maha Kumbh and easy access to the Kashi Vishwanath temple, DM S Rajalingam and additional police commissioner S Chinnappa on Friday inspected areas including the church and Godaulia intersection, giving necessary instructions to police officers on duty. They then walked to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple from gate number four, later touring towards Chowk to review arrangements. They also instructed the chief medical officer to deploy a medical team at Kotwali police station and Maidagin intersection.
During this time, a couple from Telangana sought help from the DM when their five-year-old son, Revanth Reddy, went missing in the crowd. The DM directed police officers to search for the child, who was found safe within half an hour. The couple expressed their gratitude to the DM.
During the inspection from the church to gate number four of the temple, vendors selling on carts and sidewalks were warned not to create unnecessary crowds, or else action would be taken.
Earlier on Thursday, the DM inspected the areas around Maidagin and assessed movement arrangements by speaking with ACP Pragya Pathak stationed at Kotwali police station. He urged people to keep moving in an orderly queue, avoid unnecessary crowding, and instructed shopkeepers in Kripalani Market to keep their goods inside their shops to prevent obstruction in movement. He also directed the deployment of civil defence personnel in the area.
