Med student dies, friend injured as car crashes into divider
Ghaziabad: Two accidents — a few hours apart — claimed the lives of a medical student and a motorcyclist in the city.
In the first incident, Abhishek Somvanshi — a 23-year-old medical student from Prayagraj — died when his Hyundai Venue crashed into a divider at the Vrindavan Green U-turn in Arthala, Sahibabad, early on Thursday morning.
His fellow medical student, Avatansh Pandey (24), from Siddharth Nagar, was critically injured.
According to Sahibabad ACP Rajneesh Upadhyay, the accident occurred around 3.30am on Thursday when the duo was traveling from Meerut Tiraha to Mohan Nagar in their car (UP70GP-2363).
"The vehicle lost control near Arthala U-turn, causing a severe collision with the divider," said Upadhyay.
Both students, who were studying at Santosh Hospital, were rushed to the same health facility, where Somvanshi succumbed to his injuries. Pandey is undergoing treatment for critical injuries.
In another accident on Wednesday night, 37-year-old Saurabh Tyagi died after his motorcycle collided with a tractor in Muradnagar.
Masuri ACP Siddharth Gautam said the accident occurred around 8pm when Tyagi was traveling from Sarna village towards Muradnagar on his motorcycle (UP14BW-1545).
"The victim was struck by an unregistered tractor near a liquor store. The tractor driver, who was operating the vehicle recklessly at high speed, fled the scene. The tractor was abandoned at the spot," said Gautam.
Tyagi, who wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was declared dead on arrival at a health centre in Muradnagar.
Police have launched an investigation to apprehend the tractor driver and ascertain the exact cause of events that led to the two accidents.
