Biomed waste incinerator to move to Panvel
Mumbai: BMC has begun the process of relocating part of the biomedical waste plant operations from Govandi to Jambhivali, in the Panvel taluka of Raigad district. This comes amid opposition by local residents. The plant at Govandi is responsible for processing biomedical waste generated by hospitals, clinics and laboratories.
However, officials said the entire operation is not likely to be shifted, and only the incinerator will be moved. In 2022, a group of residents from Govandi sent a legal notice to the govt alleging the plant releases poisonous smoke through its incinerator. — Richa Pinto
