Udupi: There was no loud campaigning, no sound of officials in suits or uniforms. A group of men, women, and children gathered in the dark forest to voice their issues. Listening to their concerns was Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar.
On Thursday night, the MLA stayed in the village to hear the problems of the tribal people of Eedu village, who have been living amidst the beauty of the Western Ghats for many years. This village is also notable for being affected by Naxal activities. The MLA travelled 15km from Hosmaru into the dense forest to reach the remote area where the people live. He spent the night there, listening to the residents' issues, setting an example.
The residents shared their various problems with the MLA, who visited to understand the challenges faced by those living in the forest environment. The MLA stayed at the home of Dinesh Gowda, a member of the tribal community, and listened to the grievances of the locals through simple and friendly conversations.
Eleven families from the tribal Malekudiya community live in the dense forest, relying on agriculture. They rear livestock and poultry, focusing on organic farming. They are committed to educating their children and making them literate. Utilising natural water sources, they generate electricity for self-sufficiency, which the MLA learned about during his visit and appreciated their hard work.
The MLA returned with a promise to understand and respond to the issues, after personally experiencing and comprehending the problems faced by the people.
