3 cops cleared of proof suppression charges in Chinese loan app case
Chandigarh: The UT police on Thursday reinstated an inspector and two head constables, who had been suspended following allegations of concealing and suppressing evidence in the Chinese loan app case. SP (Headquarters) Manjeet issued orders for the reinstatement of all three officers — inspector Ranjit Singh and two head constables, Rajendra Singh and Bahadur. About 10 days back, the department had also reinstated sub-inspector K D Singh. These officers were cleared of allegations of concealing and suppressing evidence in the Chinese loan app case. On July 2, 2024, all four officers were suspended by the police department.
The cyber cell team busted a gang involved in online fraud through Chinese app loans and arrested Manoj Rathore, Puneet Kumar, and Ashish Kakkar. The three accused were remanded in police custody for 11 days, during which senior officials investigated the involvement of the three suspended cyber cell officers. The investigation found no evidence of collusion by inspector Ranjit Singh, SI K D Singh, head constable Rajendra Singh, and head constable Bahadur, leading to their reinstatement.
Former cyber cell in-charge Ranjit Singh unearthed a gang defrauding people of crores under the pretense of providing loans. The gang included 29 members, one of whom was a Chinese national, all of whom were arrested. An FIR was registered in the cyber police station on Sept 30, 2022, under IPC sections 384, 420, 468, 471, 509, 120B, and IT Act sections 66D, 67, and Foreigners Act section 14.
