Pune: In response to the rising cases of diarrhea and Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) across the state, including Pune, the Maharashtra Water Supply and Sanitation Department has issued directives to ensure the supply of clean, safe drinking water. The move comes a month after the initial outbreak of GBS, which is suspected to be linked to contaminated water sources.
The Chief Secretary had earlier instructed immediate measures to provide purified water in affected areas. Following this, the department released a circular mandating regular monitoring and testing of water quality across the state. The Maharashtra Water and Sanitation Mission Office has also been directed to submit a consolidated monthly report to the state government.
Key Measures for Safe Drinking Water:
Strict enforcement and inter-departmental coordination involving the Panchayat, Health, Education, and Water Supply Departments have been emphasized to prevent further spread of GBS. Officials have been warned of disciplinary action if found negligent in following the guidelines.
The state government urges citizens to remain cautious and report any issues related to water quality immediately.
