In a major global embarrassment for Pakistan at the global scene, over 130 of its citizens were deported from as many as 12 countries across the world during the last 48 hours. According to reports, 131 Pakistani citizens were deported from these 12 nations due to various offences, including illegal immigration, illegal stay after expiration of work visa, and drug-related crimes.
As per immigration officials, Saudi Arabia expelled 74 Pakistanis charged with drug smuggling and leaving their jobs without informing relevant authorities. Similarly, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) deported several Pakistani nationals for illegal-entry, theft, and drug-related offences, as per reports.
According to reports in Middle East-based media outlets, one Pakistani citizen was denied entry upon arrival in the UAE and deported, while another was expelled after an alleged suicide bid.
Apart from Saudi Arabia and UAE, Pakistani nationals were also deported from Oman ,Cambodia, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Iraq, and Mexico.
Pakistani media reports said that several citizens who were deported from the above mentioned countries, were detained upon their arrival in Pakistan, out of whom 16 people remanded to the custody of the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), while six were handed over to the police in Larkana, Kalat, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Rawalpindi, pending further investigation.
Notably, immigration officials at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport deboarded 86 passengers for various reasons during the same period.
Reports citing immigration sources said that 30 pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, were not allowed to board lights due to lack of advance hotel bookings and sufficient funds for expenses. Additionally, seven young Pakistani citizens travelling on student or study visas to Cyprus, the UK, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan were also deboarded, they said.
As per the reports, passengers on tourist visit visas from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Azerbaijan, Malawi, Congo, Bahrain, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and Zimbabwe were denied travel, while individuals blacklisted from working in Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia were also barred from boarding flights.
