In 1983, Sunny made his debut with the romantic film Betaab. The movie became an instantaneous hit and earned the actor his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Though the movie was produced by his father, Dharmendra, it was directed by Rahul Rawail. In his first film, Sunny shared the screen space with actress Amrita Singh.
During the years 1985–1989, Sunny Deol’s major success came when he appeared in Rahul Rawail’s Arjun (1985). The film earned highly critical praise and went on to become a major hit. The movie gave Deol the identity of an action hero. Over the years, Sunny became a part of prestigious projects.
