Man held with crude petrol bombs in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: The city police arrested a 34-year-old man who was planning to damage a BJP functionary's office near Selvapuram here with crude petrol bombs in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Selvapuram police identified the arrested person as M Nasar, of Mayilkal near Kuniyamuthur. According to a police officer, they nabbed him during a vehicle check around 12.30am on Wednesday.
"He was travelling on a motorcycle. When he saw police constables Sanjay Gandhi and Prasanth, who were conducting a vehicle check at Telungupalayam Pirivu, he sped away. The police constables chased him and stopped his motorcycle. They found that he was in possession of two crude petrol bombs," the officer said.
During inquiry, Nasar told police that he was on his way to damage the office of a BJP functionary named Manikandan near Selvapuram.
"Nasar was working for Manikandan for the past two years. He had recently sought Rs5,000 from Manikandan for expenses. However, Manikandan turned down his request for cash. Nasar decided to take revenge. He consumed alcohol with his three friends at Azath Nagar at Karumbukadai around 8pm on Tuesday. Later, he visited a petrol bunk and bought a litre of petrol in an empty water bottle. He then returned to Karumbukadai, filled two empty liquor bottles with petrol and fixed wicks. He was planning to throw the petrol bombs at Manikandan's office at Telungupalayam Pirivu," the officer said.
Police secured Nasar and took him to the Selvapuram police outpost at Sivalaya Junction for further investigation.
